I get so many comments about photographing kids. M

I get so many comments about photographing kids. My kids in particular. I rarely post the bloopers so I know my kids come across as these perfectly compliant, engaged models.

The truth is far from it. After eight years Madeleine just knows how to smile/work the camera. BUT we keep her photo sessions brief, engage her with interesting outfits or concepts, and I give her creative control.

Aston is my challenge and here are my tips which can be used with every child...

🌟Keep portrait sessions short, 5 minutes is all you need
🌟Get them prepped earlier (outfits/hair etc), let them chill while you get ready, then bring them in
🌟Do something fun ~ play peek a boo, jump on the bed, silly faces. Have the camera ready for the in between moments
🌟Get them to tell you a story. The crazier the better. Respond with silly questions and watch their face light up
🌟 Ask for their best happy face, sad face, silly face and smiley face. Cue giggles.

Viola! You’re done! And if you’re like me, you’ll get some gems and many turds ~ but you only need a couple of gems to make it worth it!
